Essay title: How to Be Your Own Lie Detector
According to the 2000 census
web site we are lied to about 200 times each day. Today I am going to inform you on how to become your own lie detector. This information is useful for employers, people in the criminal justice field and for anyone to use in everyday situations where telling the truth from a lie can help prevent you from eing a victim of fraud, scams, and other deceptions.
I am going to start with body language. You can tell a lot by a person's body language. Physical expression will be limited and stiff, with few arm and hand movements. Hand, arm, and leg movement are toward their own body, the liar will take up less space. A person who is lying will avoid making eye contact with you. Another key sign is their hands touching their face, throat and mouth, also touching or scratching the
nose or ehind their ear. They are not likely however, to touch their chest or heart with an open hand.
Next I would like to move on to emotional gestures and emotions are off a normal pace. The display of emotion is delayed; stays longer than it would naturally, then stops suddenly. The gestures/expressions don't match the verbal statement, such as frowning when saying I love you. Their expressions are going to be limited to mouth movements when someone is faking emotions instead of the whole face.
You also need to take not of their interactions and reactions. A guilty person gets defensice while an innocent person will often fo on the offensive. The liar is umcomfortable facing his questioner/accuser and may turn his head or body away from the speaker. They might unconsciously place objects such as a book or coffee cup between themselves and you.
