It is necessary to be dishonest in today’s society?
“Winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing”. This expression can show very well the ideology of the general culture where we live today. As a result, unethical activities become acceptable when it is convenient, so, the dishonesty is not enough punish. However, we could reduce it, if we react on time.
To begin, the society looks always for the perfection: at home, at school, at work, everywhere. The competition is at its highest level and this way of thinking puts adults and children under heavy pressure, consequently, people will do all as possible to stay in competition and that includes be dishonest. Expectations from family, schools and employers are very high. Also, everybody is looking for the respect. People respect those who are done well in life: good grades, good job, etc. With all these pressures, is not hard to figure out why people of all ages are dishonest.
Because of this big competition, the dishonesty is not punishing as well. At schools, the punishment is not follow; at work, the important is the results; in our society, the government is weak for punish the senior civil servants when they had been found guilty of any crime. One expert writes, “Being honesty with your work falls into this category because if you get a 4.0 grade point average you will definitely get a lot of respect, no matter by the way”. With those examples is not hard to understand why the society tolerated the dishonesty.
