Kerzner Office Equipment specializes in high-end office furniture and equipment. During the first 5 years of existence, the company experienced growth followed by a need to lay off 25% of its employees. A new CEO, Justin Tubbs, was brought on board and has been successful at turning the company around. Tubbs is committed to employee participation and redesigned operations around the concept of self-managing teams. This has proven to be very successful.

In celebration of the company’s 10th anniversary and it impressive turnaround and growth, Tubbs would like to throw a people celebration. His idea is to celebrate the work the employees have completed. Amber Briggs, a human resource specialist, has been assigned 14 members to help create the celebration

Recruitment of Members

Recruiting members to become a part of a team or organization can be tiresome and hard work. As a project manager, he or she must be creative and develop unique strategies that will make individuals believe he or she wants to become a member of the team and that the project team is a team focused on making a difference. He or she as project manager must make individuals believe being a part of the project team is a pleasure and an opportunity to do something for the company as well as the opportunity to prove to themselves that he or she is more than what they are and can move up in the company and that is the first step in the right direction.

Establishing a Team Identity

Before starting a project of any magnitude, the project manager must establish an identity for the team. The team must be made aware of who they are, what they are about, and what they are setting themselves out to accomplish. Every individual has her own personal identity, and individual identities must be set apart from the project team’s identity. The team identity should be one that makes the team stand out and makes others in the company know exactly what their job is and how good they are at doing their job.
