Historically marijuana has been used for a variety of reasons. Marijuana has been used as fiber to make rope, paper, clothes, lotions, and a variety of other products currently being used in America. Marijuana contains THC, which produces a psychoactive effect when consumed by humans. According to Leah Spicer the use of marijuana dates back to when the Old Testament was written. Many people in America today smoke marijuana for recreational purposes. Many people are arguing over whether laws governing marijuana should be liberalized. Marijuana is not something used only for recreational purposes it also has medial purposes. In general smoking marijuana is not any worse for am individual than consuming other legal drugs if it is used moderately.
There are many citizens suffering due to a variety of diseases. The usage of marijuana could benefit them by lessening the severity of the symptoms. Marijuana is very beneficial for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy as well as patients suffering from AIDS. According to the Institute of Medicine, marijuana can relieve pain, control nausea and vomiting, and add in appetite stimulation. Not all patients react the same to all medications. Some patients may respond better to the use of marijuana. There is some research currently being done on marijuana and its medicinal purposes. They are trying to develop new drugs based on marijuana and its effects but in the mean time there are many people suffering. There are also many suffering patients who are being arrested for illegally using the drug to relieve their symptoms. They are breaking the law but it is unjust to punish them because they are just trying to relieve their pain and
