Essay title: Libertarian
After reading Kirk's and Brownback's articles on Conservatism, I found myself agreeing with some of the principles. However, what conservatives say and do is a totally different story. Conservatives say they want to limit the government's control over our personal lives but push for laws like the Patriot Act to eavesdrop on our private lives. Brownback wants more compassion in out federal government but why were the conservatives in power so slow to help Katrina victims? It's not like the hurricane came out of nowhere. The government knew weeks in advance the storm was coming. After days of delay, the government finally sent some supplies which were designed to protect from terrorist attacks not for saving lives.
I agree with Kirk's principle that for a society to work each citizen must believe in moral order. A society can't thrive with individuals who ignore or go against these moral codes for a pursuit of self gratification. It's the role of the
