Essay title: Lillian Bassman Photography

This photograph was taken in February 1956, by Lillian Bassman. The major theme or subject in this photograph would be a portrait with beauty and peace. The main subject is placed in the centre, the photograph style is olden day 1950's, non-representational.

The art work was made in black and white print; the special equipment used to produce this photograph is zoom lens. This photo was taken inside a train or bus. I think the photograph has been lit by natural light, but it could be flash. The artist has photographed this work to achieve blurred motion, in the background.

The uses of these materials and equipment influenced the look and mood of this artwork, by making the photo look brighter, black and white, it makes it look more 1950's. The kinds of shapes that are used in this photograph are natural. The texture that is used is smooth, shiny. The kind of space the photograph contains is shallow space (looks like you cannot see very far). The tone has been used by being highly contrasted (mainly black and white); the colour has been used with bright neutral colours.
