Essay title: Listening

Listening Report

On Monday, October 08, 2007 I listened to the WOI-AM (640) Morning Edition. On Monday many different things were happening in the news. First, three researchers Mario Copecy, Oliver Smithies, and Sir Martin Evans were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for there work on gene targeting. They were awarded 1.5 million dollars to split between themselves. These men have been working on how genes affect the body, and more importantly what gene does what. They used lab mice to run experiments and are learning the causes of cystic fibrosis. Another thing is the tragedy in Wisconsin; Tyler Peterson killed six people this weekend at a party after pulling people hostage in a Hunting store. Police shot and killed Tyler Peterson. Lastly, I listened about the Chicago Marathon Race. It was very hot in Chicago this weekend and the weather was very hard on marathon runners. On Monday, three runners were still in critical condition, and one Michigan police officer had died. The first time ever, the Chicago Marathon was ended early.

My brain goes in a thousand different directions every minute of the day. I can somehow stress myself out completely on the most relaxing day of my life; therefore listening is sometimes difficult for me. This assignment was surprisingly different. When things interest me, it helps me focus more, like most people. The news actually interests me, I like hearing about what is going on in the world, and a lot of times makes me grateful for what I have. So this listening assignment I enjoyed listening to what was going on.

Along with listening to the news, come distractions. Distractions are everywhere; a person could be in a completely white room and having to focus on one item and still could find a distraction. I am guilty as doing just that. I had many distractions while listening to the Morning Edition. First off, It was a Monday morning, enough said. I was still annoyed that I had been woken up earlier
