Essay title: Masters Degree in General Psychology
Masters Degree in General Psychology
My goal for the past 10 years is to become a psychologist. I feel this goal can be accomplished
through a Masters Degree in General Psychology. Furthermore, for the past 10 years, I have worked
hard to learn as much as I can about this industry. I have worked as a volunteer with the Department
of Corrections. While with the Department of Corrections, it was our responsibility to ask questions
of the offender, such as how they would curtail their life and or activities based on the offence they
were charged with. We would then evaluate and analyze the response in writing and eventually
present this evaluation to the court along with a sentence recommendation. Furthermore, since
working full time as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Kah Tai Care & Rehab Center, it is at this
facility I am able to work with residents that have Dementia, Alzheimer’s, as well as those who
experience sundowners disease. I have gained considerable knowledge and insight into the needs of
the seniors I work with. While working at the Kah Tai Care and Rehab Center, I have come across a
number of residents with diverse medical and psychological problems. One particular resident comes
to mind. When she came to our facility, she had to be taken from the ambulance via a ramp and
wench. As I approached her, she was crying uncontrollably. I asked what the problem was. She said
she was afraid. Afraid of falling and of a different environment. I told her she would not fall, to
just look at me and breath through her nose and out through her mouth. With regards to the new
environment, I reassured her all will be fine, she is closer to her home and as soon as she is stronger,
she will be able to go home. Leannia weighed close to 500 lbs. upon arrival. When leaving, she
weighed just over 350 lbs.
Prior to working at the Kah Tai, I had a working knowledge of Psychology, not only through
education but also through the continual evaluation and analysis of things and situations within our
lives. However since working there at the Kah Tai, I’ve gained substantial knowledge of the medical
language and care required in order to care for the elderly who reside at our facility. I am able to
understand and apply the medical knowledge I’ve gained working with the staff at the facility as well
as the knowledge gained through education.
As a result of this knowledge and with a degree in General Psychology, I will be able to contribute
the knowledge and experience I
