Essay title: More Police
A Fine Solution
The old saying that two heads are better then one is a long used adage that we are all used to hearing when it comes to being more vigilant in our day to day lives. In today’s world of ever growing concerns for our safety and security, it is ever more relevant. However, when we tried to create a solution for these concerns by implementing the Patriot Act, people were worried about their right to privacy being violated. Increasing the police force will provide a happy medium between the people that are for or against the Patriot Act. It will do this by decreasing the amount of cameras that are placed in areas that we aren’t aware of, increase the overall safety of being on the streets, and decrease terrorism.
By increasing the amount of police, we can decrease the amount of cameras that are looking in on our private lives. These cameras are the main reason why so many people dislike the Patriot Act. Many feel that the cameras are an invasion of their privacy. The cameras are being put in place because there aren’t enough security officials to keep an eye on everything that goes on. If law enforcement is increased in numbers, then it would be possible to monitor what goes on without placing cameras in ways that will invade the privacy of private citizens.
Another reason why we should amplify the number of police would be to increase the safety of being out on the streets. There have been numerous accounts where people have been robbed or attacked in broad daylight and there hasn’t been anyone around to help the individual being assaulted or to identify the criminal who committed the crime. If there were more policemen around, they could react faster to distress calls and get a more accurate firsthand accounting of the culprit. The high visibility with the presence of an officer would have a positive effect on both ends. When people see a police officer, they immediately feel somewhat safer knowing that someone can protect them. The criminals are also less likely to commit crimes if they know that there are many more policemen around.
Having more law enforcement around would also decrease terrorism. If there were more police in public buildings and airports, terrorist acts could be stopped before they even begin. Local security and police officers are our first line of defense to catch terrorist acts, so strengthening that defense would increase the sense of safety to any civilian going through a store or airport. Most terrorists
