There has been radio broadcast from the National Broadcasting Company since the early 1920Хs. Then, in 1939 was the year that NBC first hit television. Fours years later in 1943, they received their first logo. It was an old style Microphone with lightning bolts it. Then came January 1st, 1954, when NBC started broadcasting shows in color. Their logo changed to a xylophone and a mallet that played the famous Тbing-bing-bongУ, which is still heard today.
For the next two years the xylophone logo was used for NBC. Then, 1956 rolled around which brought the beginnings of the logo that we see today. A designer by the name of John J. Graham created the first version of the peacock logo. The peacock has eleven feathers, all a different color. The peacock logo appeared on all NBC shows, not animated in the right-hand corner to the screen only on colored broadcast. September 7, 1957 was the first showing of the animated peacock logo. Where the feathers came from the back of the peacock then changed to color.
Then beginning late 1959 John J. Graham created another logo to appear at the end of each show, know as the ТNBC SnakeУ. It started with an N, and then each letter would grow from it, while the NBC chimes were played in the background. Since its introduction in 1959 there has been many changes to it. From just color changes to changes in the font. The ТNBC SnakeУ was used until early 1975. January 1st, 1962, was when the second peacock logo was shown. The peacock open its feathers against a kaleidoscope like background and it only appeared at the start of the show.
Following the ТretirementУ of the peacock logo came NBCХs new logo. In January 1st, 1976, was the first showing of their new logo, which was a stylized N. The N consisted of two trapezoids, one red and the other blue. This was also the first computer-animated logo for any American television network. NBC ran into a problem with their new logo. A local television network in Nebraska had the same logo. NBC went with a out-of-court settlement
