Essay title: Organization Leadership
Group assignment can be a difficult task because it requires individual’s time negotiation within the group members. The most difficult part of the group assignment is to find the appropriate time that all of the members are available to meet. Another cause of conflicts when doing group assignment is lack of communication and respecting others. Because everyone has their own opinions, perceptions, and beliefs, it is almost impossible to complete a group task without understanding and respecting each other.
I personally enjoyed working with my group for this assignment because first of all, our topic (sexual harassment) was very interesting and because everyone wanted to gain better knowledge on this subject; we were motivated, which made the meeting times more appealing and fun. Secondly, I was fortunate to have group members who are responsible, trustworthy, and motivated. We all understood the importance of respecting and listening to other member’s opinion because we considered ourselves as a team that is striving for a same goal. But on the other hand, we did have some conflicts and obstacles to overcome. Because we’re all a full-time student in college and some of us worked, it was difficult to find the right time for everyone to meet. There were times when we had to meet late at night because that was the only time everyone was able to make. But through constant emails and phone calls, we worked around everyone’s busy schedule. The other obstacle was to open up and break the barrier between each member because when we first met, no one knew each other and it was awkward. But as I started speaking about what should be done in terms of dividing the tasks and what main points to focus on, the rest of the group easily opened up and broke the ice between everyone.
Just like how everyone has their own strength and weakness, our group also had strengths that impacted the overall assignment positively. Everyone in my group was optimistic, so when in down times, we supported each other and looked to the brighter side. When one of my group members was having a hard time finding the information, the rest of the group members helped him so everyone can be on the same pace. We all had same goal, which was to do well in this group assignment, so everyone was committed and motivated to do their best because one person’s weakness can impact our grade.
I believe there is always a room to grow and improve. If I were to make changes to make my group more effective in future assignment, I would have to say spend more time together with my group members. This might sound off topic and has nothing to do with school work but I believe having a comfortable environment is very important when doing a task. When individuals feel comfortable and if a group can develop a trust within each other, there would be fewer conflicts and members in a group can work together as a one unit. Another change I would like to see in my group is to be more active in terms of initiating conversations and taking roles. But I believe this can be done through creating a bonding time so that, like I have mentioned earlier, members can trust each other and feel comfortable.
There were no differences between my ratings and the group average because we did not have any serious conflicts that have affected our relationship as a team. Everyone in my group agreed that every single one of us is trustworthy, open, fair, respected, motivated, and responsible.
Even though I am not a huge fan of group assignment, I personally think this assignment was successful
