Essay title: Paragraphs

The paragraph is the major building block for essays and papers. There are different types of paragraphs used in constructing a paper. The typical paragraph found in an essay is the main paragraph, but there are also three special types of paragraphs that are very important to writing a good essay. These are the introductory, transitional, and concluding paragraphs.

The introductory paragraph introduces the paper’s theses to the reader. This type of paragraph states your topic you will develop and the organization of the paper. The paragraph needs to grab the attention of the reader. When writing the introduction it is probably best to use the general-to-specific method. This method starts with a broad, general topic, and then gradually narrows the subject down specifically.

The transitional paragraph makes a transition in the paper from one section to another. It will indicate to the reader that a change will come in an idea or topic, or a move from a broad topic to more specific one. At times they can be short as a single sentence or two. At other times, however, the transitional paragraph needs to be longer to conclude
