Essay title: Pedagogy

Pedagogy

The word pedagogy refers to the science of teaching. Pedagogy derives from the ancient Greek word pedagogues, which means the slave that took the children to and from school. There are more than one definitions or meanings associated with the term, pedagogy. Another meaning for the word is the process, act or act of imparting knowledge and skill on an individual or group. Pedagogy can also mean the profession of a teacher or educator. Lastly, pedagogy pertains to activities of educating or instructing.

Pedagogy sometimes is referred to as the proper or correct implementation of teaching strategies. An influential person in the development of teaching strategies was Paulo Freire. Freire published a book, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, which had a major and beneficial influence on American educators and the teacher student relationship.

I feel the term pedagogy somewhat fulfills the characteristics of the teaching defined body of knowledge. The
