Pizza Trends
Trends come and go just like the times. In the pizza industry, restaurants serve a variety of pizza’s, hoagies, and Italian cuisines. The styles of each of these favorites have changed to fit the needs of customers who are on the go, health conscious, or have medical conditions. The restaurant industries are constantly changing their menus adding low-carbohydrate, low-calorie or dietary foods to their menus. People today are watching what they put into their bodies and it shows. The average life span 20-30 years ago was around 50-70 and today people are living in an average of 70-90. This world is fast paced and people just want a quick bite that is also good for you. Pizza restaurants have added health conscious items to their menu’s that are good for you like vegetable pizza, low cholesterol oils for frying, or low-fat/ low-carb food items. Customers change their taste in food as well and want something a little different from time to time. The pizza industry is right on top of it, adding new toppings to their pizza’s that may include but are not limited to; buffalo chicken pizza, cheese stake pizza, veggie pizza, spicy Mexican, and even dessert pizza’s topped fruits or candies. Some eat in pizza places have added side salad bars to satisfy a larger target markets need and wants. New foods are added like the Pazone for quick east to take on the go pizza goodness. Weather customers eat in or take out, buy it by the slice or by the pie; they always have a variety to choose from. Some restaurants have changed their crust and bread recipes using different types of flours, salts and oils to satisfy the needs of the health conscious customers. (PMQ’s Pizza Magazine)
Many pizza places realize that customers are in a hurry and just want their food to go and offer pick-up or delivery services with no added charges. They have saved money on space because they have only pick-up or delivery, no eat in services. They only focus on the pizza product; by operating like this they can make a quality product in efficient large quantities. They can lower the prices of their pies and/or offer specials or combo’s while still being competitive with the industry. (ProQuest)
On the other hand, other pizza restaurants deal more with family oriented trends. Other places focus on the quickness of the “to-go” items as well as the customer’s wants. They offer eat-in dinning in a family friendly setting that’s fun and relaxing. They relate to the children by providing entertaining fun areas such as an arcade game area or a play land/ ball pit area to keep their attention. These places may cost a little more but families are willing to indulge a little more for the service, experience, and the atmosphere. These places bring in a larger profit than sit-down formal type family restaurants. (ProQuest)
