PRINCESS VICTORIA AND HER LIFE BEFORE SHE WAS QUEEN
How was Princess Victoria ever to become queen? Since her father was the forth son of King George III, her chances of becoming queen were slim to none. Princess Victoria's grandfather, King George III was mentally insane, so he needed help ruling England.. His eldest son, Prince George, served as the country's Regent.
Prince Regent and Caroline {his wife} had one child, Princess Charlotte of Wales. Princess Charlotte was born on January 7, 1976, but died in 1818. People were worried that the royal line was going to die when Prince Regent died. The parliament and the entire country of England wanted the other four other princes to find wives. Three of the four princes found wives quickly. In July of 1818, Edward, Duke of Kent and Victoire, Princess of Leiningen, married. Nine months later, on the 24th of May 1819, a princess was born at Kensington Palace in London... Her name was Alexandrina Victoria.
The Winter that princess Victoria was born her father caught pneumonia. When she was only eight months old he died. Later that week her grandfather {King George III} also died. So, who was going to take the crown? The eldest son of King George III. George, The Prince Regent became known as King George IV.
Alexandrina's childhood was difficult. Her mother was very protective and her uncle was a strict king and uncle. She was well educated. Princess Victoria was taught by a governess in her home. She was taught ro speak fluently in German, English, French and Italian. She chose to learn to speak Italian because she loved operas. As a child she loved to paint, draw, sing and write. Starting at childhood and ending at her death, Princess Victoria kept a series of diaries that told about her life. During her life she had many watchers. Her mother, of coarse, made sure she was protected at all times, but there was also John Conroy. John Conroy was eager for Princess Victoria to be queen and would not let anyone or anything jeopardize her chances. The Princess never even new she may become queen until she was eleven years old when she looked at the royal family tree. Although she was happy, she was also sad. Princess Victoria often stated that she cried often when she realized she was to be queen. When Princess Victoria was a teenager she got very ill. Trying to gain an important post in Victoria's government, John Conroy,
