Essay title: Search for Your Soul’s Desert
SEARCH FOR YOUR SOUL'S DESERT
Pilgrim, how you journey
On the road you chose
To find out why the winds die
And where the stories go.
All days come from one day
That much you must know,
You cannot change what's over
But only where you go.
Enya,Pilgrim
Every individual has his own world with a thought of reality. Some people search for the meaning of life and their spirit through travelling, some people do it without changing the place and the time. Birds migrate to other places and whales cross the oceans throughout the year in order to adapt to the nature. Yet why do the people in the west travel to the east or vice versa? The answer lies beneath the meaning that different cultures and ideologies give to the time and the space. As in the song of Enya, people generally have mental, physical and time travel so as to build a bridge between the past and future by going into the depth of our spirits.
Travelling to west or east depends on the spatial and time differences of various cultures, languages and ideologies. Thus, some people in the west travel to the east to discover the inexperienced past with exotic and mystic culture. Moreover, some people in the east travel to the west in order to find the future with higher life standards and technology. Therefore, travelling to east and west is for crossing the borders of nationality and learning what is missing in your own identity that prevents perfect life . Then this type of travelling becomes a mental and physical travel. Moreover it is a time travel depending on your concept of modernization and development.
The need for travelling in the world changes according to the strength of mentality and identity. In other words, if a person has discovered his inner world with the knowledge of time and space then there is no need to travel. Therefore, people generally travel to search for the lost values and the center of their existence. When there is a change in the space, the change in the culture and the perspective towards life is inevitable. Therefore travelling removes the obstacles that surround our brain and heart. This removal brings you an experience to question your life style, your country's rules and your mind. So illumination of the self begins with the travel through mind.
Where is the time travel in this enlightment? Time changes when the history, culture, politics and even religion of the space change because the events that people react, the ritiuals the societies have and the life styles differ. For instance, with the technological developments some countries augment in science and technical issues so at first glance they grab the future. So going from a place where the technology has not the prior place to a technologically developed country, you feel to have a time travel as you see machines and life styles you have never seen before. Thus the differences in in the level of science and the presence of history, arts and religion can cause time travel apart from physical travel.
Unfortunately, not every physical travel brings about mental and time travel as the traveller closes his senses so change can not be perceived
. These people are like sleepwalkers who are isolated from their environment. If you are not related with your surrounding, then you can not discover your identity as place is a spark that starts the great fire within your mind and heart. For instance, the people who travel abroad in order to relax and get away from their fast lives can hardly realize the existence of the change within another culture because their mind is occupied with their selves not in the sense of discovery but feeling well and healthy. In contrast to people who need travelling, some people do not need travelling as they have already discovered the meaning of life, freedom and their spirits. These are the people who have time travel within their minds because they have all present, past and future so that they can relate these without losing their consciousness. For example, if we ignore the effect of assimilation, Aborigines, Mauris, Native Americans and other people who exist with their indigenious life styles do not need to travel as they have learned how to be free and discovered their culture with the harmony of the nature. So that if you do not lose your values like mental freedom and do not destroy the nature, you will not have to travel to discover yourself. Therefore, physical travel with mental and time travel are done in order
