“Forbidden Love”
The movie Shakespeare in Love shows yet another approach to the subject of forbidden love. Forbidden love is something that for as long as anyone can remember has broken hearts, tormented souls and ruined some peoples lives forever. We as humans know about love and what it feels like to be in it. Why do we feel the need to try to direct a person’s heart away from it? Why do people feel the need to interfere in matters of the heart? Why do we, as humans, always want what we cannot have? Why does not being able to have something make our desire for it stronger? These are questions asked a thousand times over and every time the answer changes.
Why do we want what we cannot have and why does not being able to have it make our desires so strong? It could be because if we set a goal for something we are going to try our hardest to reach it and the further away or the higher a goal is the harder we must try. This is a challenge and challenges are something that many humans are attracted to. Things such as love are simply irresistible and a challenge to get love is like the cherry on top of a perfect sundae. For those people who believe in romance, forbidden love can be one of the most romantic forms of it. That could be another draw to such types of love, as if regular romance is not enough, you have to get the one with a pedigree.
Most stories where you hear the tale of forbidden love involves teens and we all know if you tell a teenager to stay that they will go. Even if a tale of forbidden love involves adults, such as the story of Will and Violet, perhaps it is out of rebellion to get what you cannot have. I could be to possibly prove a point of some sort.
