Essay title: Summary of Nght of the Living Dead

The film starts out with two siblings, Barbra and Johnny, going to visit their father's grave. Barbra is afraid of the cemetery because of how empty it is. The two see a man slowly walking towards them and Johnny begins to play on Barbra's fears. He teases her by saying "There coming to get you Barbra." As Barbra passes by the man that was walking he grabs her and begins to attack her. Seeing this Johnny runs over to fight the man off but he is thrown to the ground and strikes his head on a headstone which kills him. Barbra then runs back to the car and tries to escape but she realizes that Johnny has the keys. As the man begins to attack the car she releases the emergency break and the car rolls down the hill. The car crashes into a tree and Barbra runs away as fast as she can. She finds refuge in an abandoned house, as she looks around the house she is startled by the stuffed animals that surround the walls of the house.

As Barbra look outside she sees that the same man is thrashing around the outside of her house. She tries to use the phone to call for help but it is out of service. She once again goes to the window to see the situation outside and learns to her dismay that more people have gathered around the outside of the house. She goes upstairs to find a safe place to hide but at the top of the stairs there is a dead body. In her frenzied state she goes towards the back door in hopes of escape. As she opens the door she is blinded by the headlights of a truck. A man comes from the truck and after seeing the man that had been following Barbra takes her into the house. The man starts to ask Barbra questions about the house but she is to in shock to respond to him. The man, whose name is Ben, goes outside to kill two of the men surrounding the house. As he returns inside he see another man, with blood around his mouth, attempting to attack Barbra. After a struggle he kills him and then throws the body outside. He sees more attackers surrounding him and lights the dead corpse on fire which scares them away.

Back inside the house Ben begins to look for supplies that will allow him to board the house up. While he works with Barbra to fortify the house he tells her how he happened upon the house. She in turn tells her own story but begins to become hysterical when she remembers what happened to Johnny. Ben punches her in the face and knocks her out after not being able to calm her down with words.

Ben finds a radio and learns that there is an epidemic of groups of people killing other people. It then goes on to give a description of the attackers and they appear to be the same as the ones that are around the house. Ben moves a chair in the front of the lawn and lights it on fire in order to keep the attackers at bay. The radio also says that a conference is going to be held by top officials to determine the cause and solution of the murders. Barbra soon awakens and finds that Ben is almost complete in fortifying the house. They both hear on the radio that some of the murdered victims were partially eaten by their attackers. Ben goes upstairs to look around and finds the decayed corpse that Barbra had earlier discovered. He moves the body out of the way and continues to look around.

As Barbra listens to the radio the cellar door begins to open. From the cellar come a young man named Tom and a man named Harry Cooper. They were hiding in the cellar and decided to come up when they heard the radio. Ben comes down brandishing a gun that he found but puts it away when Tom explains who they are. Ben asks why they didn't come up earlier when he could have used their help. Ben and Harry soon start to get into an argue about where they should go. Harry wants to go back downstairs but Ben thinks it will be a death trap and he doesn't want to give up what he has worked for. Tom wants to stay up too so he calls
