Essay title: Television in the Household

Today television is a vital role in many households. Some of their jobs even are based off of television and watching it. As a mother I rely on television somewhat to a great extent. We have strict policies for the television in my household as far as my children watching it. I believe it is entertaining and educational.

When I first had my son I thought there is no way he would watch TV till he was about 5 due to the negative remarks I have heard about it. That lasted all but 2 months. It would help calm him down and keep him occupied while I could do my motherly duties around the house. Without it I would have been mess. My children have some very strict policies about watching television. The only live television they are allowed to watch would be the "Disney" and "Nickelodeon" channels. They would watch those channels in the morning at breakfast time and only at that time. Before their afternoon nap and bedtime they were allowed to watch a movie so they could fall asleep. Any other time it is permitted unless it was a special occasion. I don't want them to end up couch potatoes and not want to exercise and play because they were so involved in the TV. My children feel as if television and movie time are privileges and look forward to it everyday. It actually gets the a little excited to take their naps and to go to bed.

Television plays a somewhat large yet limited role in our family. To me television is a form of entertainment. When I have had a long day and just want to relax I will lay on the couch and enjoy a good show to wind down. There are such a variety of shows now a days that any person can find a form of entertainment through the television.
