Chapter 1

Chapter 2
1) "Hassan never denied me anything...but he never told on me. never told that the mirror, like shooting walnuts at the neighbor's dog, was always my idea."
*the narrator's friend Hassan would never tell him "no", always went along with his ideas, and never told on him, he was a very loyal friend.
2)"later, in the dark, after the movie had started, i heard Hassan next to me, croaking, tears were sliding down his cheeks."
*Hassan was crying because of the shame he felt after the encounter with the soldier who said he had slep with his mother at some point.

Chapter 6
1)"I wished i hadn't started his stupid conversation. i forced a smile. don't be stupid, Hassan. you know i wouldn't."
