Essay title: The Lesson
The story “The Lesson” symbolizes how people don’t want to learn new things. If you are accustom to something one way and someone comes along with a better way you will not be open to try the new way because you are so use to doing it your old way. In most cases this is not a good thing because nine times out of ten the new way is way more beneficial then your old way. In this story it tells you how Miss Moore an educated black women that has gone to college tries to help the youth. The youth does not want to change the ways that they are use to because they feel that Miss Moore thinks she is better then everyone else just because she has earned a college degree.
Miss Moore tries to educated and change the ways of the young children by showing them new things taking them to places that sell very expensive things. Trying to show them the way they should live want to live when they grow up and start a family. She wants them to see that every generation should not get worse only better. They don’t have to live making a lower class income go for something bigger, they can live the high class life also.
The children rebel against Miss Moore they don’t want to hear anything that she has to say. They end up calling her all types of names and even steel from her. Before they go into the store they are asked to look in the windows before they go in. Just to look at some of the things before they go in the store. Sugar ask Miss Moore if they can steel out of the store. This was just to get on Miss Moore’s nerves because they all fell out laughing when sugar asked the question. Part of their plan to rebel against Miss Moore help.
When they went into the shop and saw how much everything cost they were mad with Miss Moore. With items ranging from five hundred dollars to thousands of dollars. They felt insulted like she was taking them just to show them what they could not afford. Like when you hang a piece of meat in front of a dogs
