In the story “The Outsiders” written by S.E. Hinton, the characters Dallas Winston and Ponyboy Curtis are both alike and different. Pony and Dally are Greasers, which is a gang that has people that have little money and are known for their greasy and long hair. Dally is tough and rough and Ponyboy has a kind heart. Dally and Pony are two very different people.

Ponyboy Curtis is the youngest of the gang, he has a kind heart and is not rough like the rest of the gang, and he is always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoys movies, writing, and is an avid reader such as reading “Gone with the Wind” to Johnny while in Windrixville. He is sweet and sensitive and considerate, he got along well with Cherry Valance, and was always sticking up for Johnny. He was always quiet in the gang and didn’t say much. Pony escapes from reality, such as when Randy came over when he was sick, Pony tried saying that he had killed Bob and that Johnny was not dead, Pony lies to himself a lot. Pony was different in his own ways from the rest of the gang.

Dallas Winston is a rough and dangerous person that does not have a good record with the police. Dally is older and meaner, he pushes a lot of the gang around, he isn’t
