Essay title: The Quiet Hero
Since we were all little, we’ve heard about Superman, Batman, or Spiderman saving the day, or making a difference, even if it’s just getting a cat out of a tree. We also know about policemen and firemen, some real life heroes. But what about the people who we don’t hear about, the ones that quietly makes a difference without thanks? I finally took my chance to experience what it’s like to be one of those people.
I walked into the West Boise YMCA with little butterflies in my stomach and a heart ready to serve. The secretary led me to the back to meet two smiling faces, Brenda and Mr. Blane. Brenda, a happy, middle aged woman showed me the ropes, consisting of folding towels and putting them away, wiping tables, and sweeping floors.
