Do you remember September 11th? Do you remember the travesty and countless number of innocent lives taken in that beautiful city of New York, New York? I am sure you do and the millions of other Americans that witnessed it through the media. Here is where I stand on a very controversial issue that was passed on October 26, 2001: The USA Patriot Act. When a country like the United States is attacked, we must find every possible way to ensure that another attack will not occur. The USA Patriot Act is that way. Regardless if you agree with the Act or not, us Americans must agree on one thing. That a recurrence

of September 11th must never happen again.

The Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act, also known as the USA Patriot Act, serves a number of roles in protecting our home country of United States. It strengthened our government’s ability to search and conduct surveillance. It constricted banking rules and money laundering laws, making it easier to track down suppliants of terrorist funding organizations. It also promoted the Central Intelligence Agency and other law enforcement agencies to share information about suspected terrorist. It made penalties for treason and terrorist acts more severe. These provisions were necessary to fight terrorist in our home country.

When Osama Bin Laden attacked our home country with commercial airline jets, he started a new type of war: A terrorist war. Thus, new rules must be put into action. The enemy we are fighting here is not a uniformed army or navy. These terrorist are not noticeable and could be walking next to us on our daily routes. The provisions made in the USA Patriot Act counter any advantages that terrorist could have on us.
