Essay title: Whut Up

Crack! As the bat swings over home plate, the ball goes flying across the open field to the cheers of parents behind. The batter only listens for one pair of cheers as she rounds the bases: her parents. As the game ends, the players shake hands and leave the field to run to their moms and dads for the good-job-snacks they are guaranteed to have. The slugger from earlier moseys over to her parents trying to suppress the smile she has got swiped across her face from her first homerun but it doesn’t work. Her dad runs up to her and picks her up to swing her around in circles above his head while talking so quickly that everything just manages to come out as a barely recognizable form of English. Once safely back on the ground, her mother gives her a big, wet kiss on the cheek and tells her how proud she is of her “little slugger”.
