Specific Purpose: To persuade audience to practice safe sex.

Thesis Statement: People, of all ages, should learn how to practice safe sex, the benefits from practicing safe sex, and how it can ensure the safety of you and your loved ones.

Introduction:

I. "Just say yes to safe sex, because nobody has a body to die for!"

II. I watched my older sister struggle to raise her child alone at the age of 15. Believe me, it's not all peaches and cream like some of the reality shows on MTV make it out to be. Her whole world was turned upside down, because of one simple mistake; she didn't practice safe sex.

III. Today, I will tell you about safe sex.

a. First, I will explain how you can practice safe sex.

b. Second, I will tell you the benefits that practicing safe sex has.

c. Third, I will tell you how safe sex can ensure the health of you and your loved ones.

(Transition: let me begin by explaining how you can practice safe sex)

Body:

I. There are many different ways that you can use to ensure you practice safe sex the proper way.

a. According to Plannedparenthood.org condoms are the most effective safe sex tool, although it is only 98% effective.

i. Condoms are a barrier method of contraception that, when consistently and correctly used, can prevent unwanted pregnancy and prevent the exchange of blood, semen, and vaginal secretions, which are the primary routes of STD transmission. (source)

ii. There are two types of condoms, male and female. The male condom is a thin barrier lining placed over the glands and shaft of the male reproductive organs before sexual intercourse. The female condom is a sheath like tube placed inside the vaginal canal with flexible polyurethane rings at each end. (source)

iii. Condoms prevent unwanted pregnancy, HIV infection, and against STD's.

b. There are many safe and effective birth control methods today.

i. Birth control only protects you against pregnancy, it does not protect you against HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases.
