Addiction

Most Americans are addicted to something in this world. Whether it is an addiction to video games, drugs, or alcohol at least one of these is a problem that affects most Americans. This problem has been around sense the creation of the products people are addicted to. Each one of these addictions presents a different obstacle for the public to overcome.

Sense the advent of Atari in the 70’s there have been nerds in their basements playing endless gaming sessions, with no regard for the world around them. This problem had only gotten worst through time. From Halo to World of Warcraft today’s gamers are some of the most addicted in history. In California there are rehabilitation clinics for gamers of all types, to help them curb their habit. Although playing games in and of themselves are not harmful the lifestyle of an addicted gamer can lead to obesity, carpal tunnel syndrome, depression, or even starvation. Gaming is never thought of as a dangerous habit but falling in to addiction can have disastrous results.

The most dangerous addiction facing society today are drugs. Drugs are old a time itself going back to long before written records. Plants that used to be use for spiritual and medicinal reasons, such as opium, turned into drugs used for and escape from the real world. Drugs, like cocaine where once used to treat anything from pain to depression but have sense been revealed as an extremely addictive stimulant with horrific side effects. Most illicit drug have a low threshold of what is needed to get a fix and what will stop your heart, leading to disastrous consequences. Addiction to these substances can have grave side effects ranging from depression to death. Every year millions of Americans lives are ruined from the use of drugs.
