People’s Daily Online
In the modern world, every nation around the world accepts that International Collaboration is importance. Every nation attempts to acquire partners or alliances for developing their own economies. Today, China is the most watchful eye in the ASEAN. China has many plans to generate new type of Great Power relations in this region. One of interesting China’s movement is advocating AIIB. This article will critique about “AIIB a win-win choice for Asia and the World” that wrote by Sun Yuan in People’s Daily Online and this article also evaluate about the strengths and weakness of Sun Yuan’s paper.
Firstly, this paper will evaluate credibility of an author. Sun Yuan is the writer who wrote this paper: moreover; he is working for People’s Daily Online Newspaper. The strong point of the People’s Daily Online Newspaper is a daily newspaper in China and this is official newspaper of the China’s government. As UNESCO claimed that “People’s Daily Online is "one of the 10 most authoritative and most influential newspapers of the world”. However, the weakness of the People’s Daily Online does not have freedom enough to write negative points of the China’s government. This article published at People’s Daily Online 10:08, 5 November 2014.
Secondly, this monograph will critique the Sun Yuan’s article in Text area. Sun Yuan attempted to report and focus on aims of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the increasing economic scale of the Southeast Asian economy. Nevertheless, the Yuan’s article has some strengths and weakness.
The first main strength is his evidences. By this point, when Sun Yuan was analyzing, He always used reliable evidences for support his idea. For instance, when he explained about how is interesting of the rising enormously of the ASEAN economy, he had many information which reliable and interesting documents for showing the readers clearly. For example, document from UOB (Singapore), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the speech by Jim Yong Kim, President of World Bank (WB).
The second main strength is his evaluation. Yuan believe that AIIB is a key implement to support moneys in infrastructure in Southeast Asian economy and he argued that “AIIB should first be promoted in Asia to the benefit of the regional economy”. Moreover, he claimed that “the Southeast Asia will become one of the fastest growing consumer markets in the world”. By his predictions, It has enough logical to agree with him because Southeast Asia region have potential to rising of economic up because important resources for factory such as rubber, tin and agricultural productivity, but their governments do not have enough money to invest their infrastructures. It would seem that if AIIB promoted in this area, the regional economy will extremely growth up. At the same times, China might satisfy with the new type of Great Power relations or win-win policy and maritime Silk Road as well.
Another main strength is his structure. The Yuan’s paper has a good content and a good organization because he claimed about the latest news of AIIB in the first. Then he gave his comment at AIIB aim. Subsequently, he pointed at attractiveness of investment in Southeast Asia. After that, he gave many possible evidences for support his viewpoints. In the final, he gave his question.
The main weakness is style. Yuan’s article is kind of material from newspaper, so his article is not academic. Moreover, he usually mentioned on positive things and all of his evidences specifically support only positive points as well. Readers will have more benefit, if they have information from both sides. It would appear that, It would better if Yuan report some counter arguments with relate in this topic. However, by this point, it quite hard for Yuan to write with his pure freedom because the People’s Daily Online was monitored by the government of China and this is a real weakness of Yuan’s article.
Another main weakness is the headline. The headline is “AIIB – a win-win choice for Asia and the World”, but Yuan did not focus and explain more about “a win-win cooperation”. Again, it might be better if he attends to give more detail about a win-win policy. For example, concept of this policy or how it link between this article and the win-win policy.
Finally, this part will analyze a phenomenon of establishing the AIIB on the world views. For instances, perspective of China, American and the ASEAN.
