Bartholomae

The impromptu essay on creativity that I wrote is writer based and offers advice rather than analyzing the aspects of creativity. Bartholomae would call my essay a work of the "basic writer". It has many characteristics similar to that of the jazz ensemble essay that Bartholomae analyzed and discussed.

The essay in a whole takes on the role of a parent or a preacher, attempting to give advice instead of analyzing.

It is very rare that I feel I am doing something that is truly creative. I often avoid it to seemingly make things less difficult. This doesn't even make sense when I think about it, because creativity doesn't require much effort at all. One of my more recent brushes with creativity occurred after not sleeping for three consecutive days. After the third day of being unable to sleep, I decided to sit in bed and type. I typed whatever came to my mind and did not leave that spot, aside from getting myself some water, for eight hours. I wrote mainly short stories while sitting there, but the best and most wonderful part is, I then fell asleep.

Creativity can be a very relaxing experience. I had been unable to sleep for three days, and after writing and being creative, I was able to sleep. It may have been a coincidence and I just happened to finally pass out from exhaustion at that point, but I believe that let ting out some creativity, at least slightly, led to me being able to then sleep. From this I feel I can also conclude that creativity is a necessity. I don't believe that any person can lead a healthy life without it. I stated earlier that I avoided it to make things easier, but in reality, it makes things more difficult.

Creativity is a healthy outlet for many emotions. It allows a person to say or show their feelings in many different forms. Writing is not the only form, but it is the form i am most comfortable with. There have been portrayals of a world without creativity, and that just seems like a world not worth living.

The most notable place this takes place is the final paragraph where I talk about creativity being a healthy outlet for emotions. The essay goes beyond examining creativity and discusses the reasons a person should be creative and that it is necessary. I took on the role of a teacher trying to give a lesson on how to live a better life. The role of researcher or scholar, which is what Bartholomae believes is the role needed for academic discourse, was not taken. It is a reader based essay, but it does not analyze creativity, it tells
