Business Ethics

By definition for something to be labeled as discriminatory, it has to knowingly set up situations where treatments are unfair due to a level of prejudice; and that is exactly how one could describe the hiring practices of the canneries. The canneries have a habit of looking for individuals to fill low paying positions in areas where they would not necessarily be aware of the type of treatment they were setting themselves up to endure and seek individuals for high paying or more respectable position through the companies’ office in Washington and Oregon. If the canneries were looking for a way to distance themselves from charges of discrimination, then it would be imperative for them to change the methods in which employees are hired. By looking for perspective employees in a neutral place, it would create a level playing field and in short eliminating any outcry of discrimination.

While the actual job of a cannery worker and a noncannery work is different, the places and method for which an employee is found and hired should relate to one another. Within any employment agency there are a number of individuals who are only able to perform certain task. So assuming the cannery companies searched within one employment agency for both cannery and noncannery workers, I’m certain the will find different individuals who are qualified to perform
