CHAPTER V
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
This chapter is the presentation of the findings of the problems, the conclusion and recommendation that was made by the researchers based from the analysis and interpretation of data.
SUMMARY
The findings of this study dimmed helpful to the community, school, students, local government and other researchers. This study looked into the disaster risk reduction initiatives of Calabanga. Descriptive Method and Descriptive-evaluative was used by the researchers. The data were obtained through survey, questionnaire and interview given to the respondents and were treated with the weighted mean, percentage and Pearson chi-square after the following findings were revealed, thus:
PROBLEM 1
What are the disaster risk reduction initiatives and practices implemented among selected communities in Calabanga as to typhoon, landslide, and flood?
Findings
Based from the interviews conducted to the barangay officials of the three chosen barangays it was found out that immediacy, volunteerism, resourcefulness, readiness and unity are the disaster risk reduction initiatives and practices implemented among selected communities in Calabanga along with typhoon, landslide, and flood.
Conclusion
We therefore concluded that there are disaster risk reduction initiatives and practices implemented among the three chosen barangay’s in Calabanga as to typhoon, landslide, and flood that happens to have similarities unexpectedly and expected to become a big factor in reducing the casualties.
Recommendations
It is recommended that;
- Initiatives must not only plan but is also completed with action so that it will not waste the time in planning but rather save the essence of becoming a united and cooperative community.
- These initiatives must not only be used for the Disaster preparedness purposes but are also fit for every day living.
- Barangay officials through the help of the provincial government especially the residents must have cooperation and clear communication to enhance and improve the plans for disaster preparedness.
PROBLEM 2
How responsive are the Disaster Risk Reduction Initiatives as perceived by the Barangay Officials and Community Members?
Findings
It was found out that according to the survey questionnaire conducted to the three chosen barangays the initiatives are mostly practiced always. In terms of typhoon, the respondents in barangay Balatasan had the summation of 13.08 for the weighted mean, 43.60 % is the percentage and they got the highest in the interpretation. The respondents in barangay Sabang had the summation of 12.57 for the weighted mean, 35.91 % is the percentage and got the second to the highest in interpretation. For the barangay Sibobo had the summation of 12.56 of the weighted mean, 35.89% is the percentage and their descriptive evaluation the low. Both barangay Balatasan and Sabang have mostly practiced initiatives while barangay Sibobo had the lowest practiced of initiatives but is just a bit difference from the barangay Sabang.
In terms of flood, barangay Balatasan respondent’s had the summation of 12.14 for the weighted mean, 40.47% is the percentage and again got the highest interpretation. For the barangay Sibobo had the summation of 11.65 of the weighted mean, 33.29% is the percentage and got the second of the highest interpretation. The respondents in barangay Sabang had the summation of 11.5 for the weighted mean, 32.86 % is the percentage and was the low in descriptive evaluation. Both barangay Balatasan and Sibobo have the mostly practiced initiatives except for barangay Sibobo that had the lowest.
In terms of landslide, both barangay Balatasan and Sabang are exempted for this kind of calamity because they are not affected by it. Only barangay Sibobo residents had the summation of 10.89 for the weighted mean and 31.11 for the percentage in descriptive evaluation.
Conclusions
We therefore concluded that according to the data gathered in terms of typhoon and flood, barangay Balatasan is the highest among the three chosen barangay’s that had mostly practiced the initiatives and is expected to become a very cooperative community.
Recommendations
It is recommended that;
- Barangay officials should take time to consider the suggestions of the residents about the sake of the barangay since they are also belong to the community.
- Community members should prioritized attending in the seminars about disaster preparedness made by the barangay to be properly updated for the ideas and knowledge came from the best sources.
- Both barangay officials and residents should have unity and cooperation always as a discipline to create good responsive initiatives.
PROBLEM 3
What are the Programs and Initiatives to be adopted as needed by the Barangays?
Findings
Based from the survey that we have conducted from the three different barangay’s there were some suggestions and recommendations that came out from the residents. In barangay Sabang in terms of typhoon we found out that the residents suggested that when there is a coming typhoon, the barangay officials should hire permanent personnel’s that can assist the people to evacuate and the barangay should have their own evacuation center so that it is more easier to evacuate. In terms of flood we found out that the residents suggested that to stop the flood from there barangay they said that plant more trees, clean the drainage, participate tree planting program, practice the proper waste segregation, avoid throwing garbage’s in the sea and act with unity. And in terms of other suggestions that came out we found out that it is all about actions like give latest information about the calamity, should have more actions when it comes to rehabilitation, be fair to everyone, be alert, be responsible, be prepared, evacuate early, have discipline, help with no exceptions and both barangay officials and residents should be united.
