Cash and Carry Stores

The objective of this report is to study the potential of cash and carry stores in India. Extensive research is done to find out the acceptability of these stores in India, how they operate and how would/has the Indian retail industry changes with the introduction of these stores. The report is divided in five chapters which are briefly described below.

Chapter 1 - Introduction and overview: The first chapter of the report explains the concept of cash and carry stores and how they operate. Then it briefly talks about the international industry of these stores, major players in this industry and the markets they operate in. Further the chapter consists of the information regarding the growing retail sector in India and the liberalization in Indian retail industry which led to the entrance of international majors in Indian retail industry. It also gives brief details about the advent of cash and carry stores in the country. The purpose of this study and the benefit that can be derived from this report is also mentioned in this chapter.

Chapter 2 – Problem Context: The second chapter focuses on the organizations taken for study and the industry they operate in. In this chapter the study focuses on Metro cash and carry stores, the only cash and carry store operating in India, it gives details about the company’s background, its operations, product line, international presence and presence in India. Brief information about the companies, like Walmart India Bulls who are planning to open such stores in near future in India, is also given in this chapter. This is followed by a literature review, for which the researcher have taken 20 journals/articles from various renowned and recognized magazines and newspapers.

Chapter 3 – Research Design/ Methods: The third chapter talks about the research design and methods of data collection.
