• Sarah’s Flower Designs, (a home based business consisting of three employees) would benefit from a new desktop computer, and a handheld or PDA for Kimberly the delivery lady. The desktop computer will be sufficient to keep financial and client records in order and could also be used to bill the customers electronically. The information that was not given was how many customers the home-based business currently has, but a powerful desktop computer can handle a fledging home-based business. With the new system upgrade will also require newer database software that can be used with the PDA for Kimberly. These days most PDA devices usually have a wireless capability, and also have a way to link to the main computer and allow the system to be updated with its whereabouts and transactions. The software I mentioned back at the store would have database ability. It would help out Mark with managing the store’s day to day function.

• SBI Corporation (a financial consulting organization with 300 employees, (a few who travel) and four offices located in various places in the U.S.) would benefit from a new mainframe computer and laptop computers for the travelling employees. The laptops will allow the travelling employees to access e-mails and to retrieve important company information while away from the office. The mainframe will allow the company to improve their website by making their portfolio information accessible to clients 24 hours a day. Most companies have their own email accounts through using outlook express. That is a program that Microsoft uses for business related emails through internet or intranet. The laptop situation would benefit them with more communication within the company. Most hotels or public places have wireless available, so thus having a laptop would be perfect with instant connection where ever that need may be needed. The mainframe computer back in Dallas would be constantly on and servicing a large portion of the internet feed to all known laptop users.

• The Helping Hands League (a non-profit organization with 35 volunteers and limited funds) would benefit from a new desktop computer. The organization needs to do only simple applications such as word processing, and spreadsheet manipulation and database processing, in order to keep records for each
