Computer Uses

1. People that use their computers at home use for information, to listen to music, watch videos, or to shop. People at work use it to make spreadsheets, to research. People that use the computer for school can use it to write papers, to find out information.

2. Being computer literate means you have a knowledge and understanding of computers and their uses. It also means that you recognize that computers are everywhere.

3. Hardware is the item that is being used u can actually hold it and use it (notebook computers, PDAs, smartphones). Software is the programs that are used in the hardware. You can’t physically hold it and touch it (word processor, spreadsheets).

4. Without software hardware is useless because anything that you use on your computer is software. The software tells the computer what to do.

5. A power user is someone who needs a lot of speed and a lot of storage. Engineer, architect, and graphic designer are all people who would be considered power users.

6. The six different categories of computers are: personal computers, mobile computers and mobile devices, midrange servers, mainframes, supercomputers, and embedded computers.

7. Six common storage devices are: hard disks, floppy disks, USB flash drives, CDs, DVDs, and memory cards.

8. Floppy disks are thin flexible disks that are enclosed in a plastic shell. USB flash drives provide much greater storage than the floppy disk and are lighter and easily transported on keychain or in your pocket. Hard disks have greater storage than both the USB and floppy disks but are larger and usually inside the systems unit. CD and DVD are both compact discs that are flat, round, and portable.

9. People use the internet to communicate with other people, to shop, to receive information, for entertainment, to invest their money, etc..
