Conjugal Visitation Right

Conjugal Visitation Right

I'm completely against the idea of conjugal visits. I feel there's nothing good that can come out of a conjugal visit. There's a potenial danger of somebody getting hurt, a pregnancy, or become infected with a STD which the taxpayer has to pay for. This is one type of visitation rights I feel need to be taken away.

In our society there are many who agree that conjugal visits are good for prisoners and his or her other. It is believed that conjugal visits leads to strong family bonds and keeps functional families functional rather than having the family deal with the dysfunctional side of the relationship due to the lack of sexual contact. On the other side of this topic there are a few that would agree that conjugal visits can only lead to bad things. Phsical safety is one of the main problem's with these visits. Conjudal visits are unsupervised which could be a problem for a couple that is dysfunctional. It's also clear to me that conjugal visits increase the risk of spreading sexully transmitted diseases.Female prisoners also increase their chances of becoming pregnant while incarcerated and we all know that's not good for the mother or the child.

Conjugal visits are already high in risk, it's also a very expensive program. In fact the cost of the visits leads some to believe that the cost of the program outweigh the benefits. The state has to provide adequate space for these private visits. So does this mean the state is paying for mini motels inside the prison walls? This sounds like big business to me which leads to more money being taken away for taxpayer. In my view, the taxpayer shouldn't have to spend their hard earned money on this dangerous and expensive program. Why do inmates deserve conjugal visitation rights? Well, rather we like it or not it's apart of a prisons basic rights which falls under the heading visitation rights. It is believed by some that conjugal visits serves as a method of calming a inmate down, cure for anger, and a antidepressant for inmates. It's believed a inmate must be a model prisoner in order to even be conceder for a conjugal visits. I argree with this if were going to give prisoners these rights atleast make the inmate earn the privilege.

Since this law is not going to change anytime soon a possible solution for conjugal visits is to provide education and supply the means for safe sex. Another possible solution is to allow these visits but make them supervised, just as a security precaution to in force a safe sex policy and added safety for both parties involed. I'm sure the inmate wouldn't mind if this added security precaution could lead for them to have more conjugal visits. Having these visits in a controlled envirorment could cause a drop in pregnancy, STD rate, and family violence.
