Crisfield

Here in our little town of Crisfield we deal with the good and the bad of such a

small community everyday. Crisfield has seen families that go back generations and even

some newer ones that have planted their own roots. Our close knit community gives us all

the chance to get to know each other personally and not just on a formal level. The

downside to such a relationship is the downright nosiness of everyone around you. Drama

and scandal follow you when even the smallest of toes poke across a very fine line of

expectations laid before you by fellow townspeople.

Despite its small imperfections Crisfield is really a quiet, beautiful, and colorful

town. From the dock where you can watch the most breath taking of sunsets, to the small

mom and pop shops that run all along the strip and you’ll find anywhere else, to the

family restaurants and food joints you can see and feel the homeliness of Crisfield. I love

this town and it hurts me to see the damage of drugs and sex on the younger generation.

The lack of entertainment has driven teens to find ways to entertain themselves, which

usually leads to drinking, drugs, and/or sex. The rate of high school dropouts, as well as

teen pregnancy, has increased significantly in the last decade. Funding for Somerset

County schools is practically non existent and that has also led to low confidence in

students and a bunch of uneducated people who pass themselves off as “teachers”.
