Dating in the Workplace

Single people in the workforce don’t really have much time to go out and go dating. They tend to spend most of their time at work or at work related functions. Work for young people is more intense than it has ever been. Dating at work would seem to be the most obvious place you would find someone that you feel compatible with. After all, it’s the only place you interact with people who are in the same field as you and probably have many things in common. The problem lies with the management and the policies against dating in the workplace. They sometimes need to have policies because of situations that occur and disruptions or interference in the worker’s responsibilities. Although most companies don’t have a written policy many people feel that there is a unwritten policy against dating in the workplace. The Vault.com study shows workplace relationships have a fairly high success rate, with roughly a quarter of them resulting in either a long-term relationship or even marriage.

Now, on the positive side a relationship at work may be no problem for two people. People who find themselves attracted to each other may decide to keep things quiet at work to save their personal life from becoming a business matter. Others who are in a relationship and do broadcast it at work may keep things strictly professional during work so that nothing is compromised. Some relationships through work might even end and people do not know any different because things ended on a bad note.

This happens much of the time, also. Just because many relationships end on bad notes doesn’t mean that there need to be a dating policy to restrict people from trying out a relationship or taking anything further than business matters.

Managers might have to keep things under control if they do have a relationship that gets out of hand. Here are some steps that are recommended by www.humanresources.com. The first is that the company should proved training about work romances. It will help in situations where relationships become disruptive in the workplace, or goes as far as sexual harassment.1 The second step they recommend is broadcast your sexual harassment policy.
