2. Homeostasis is defined as having a balanced and stable internal environment. Also, the circulatory system is one of the systems in the body that helps maintain homeostasis. It transports blood throughout the entire body. Plus, blood transports gases, nutrients, hormones, and metabolic waste in the body so our bodies.
- One-way homeostasis is maintained in the blood is the transporting of red blood cells throughout the body. Red blood cells are important because they transport many of the vital elements to cells and other organs (1). They transport oxygen to cells, which is then used in aerobic respiration and carries away all of the carbon dioxide waste that is left around. One more way the circulatory system helps to maintain homeostasis in the body is through the transportation of white blood cells. White blood cells are very important to the body because they act as a defense mechanism. If the body recognizes something that should not be there, then the white blood cells will attach that virus or bacteria and try to get rid of it. The third way the circulatory system helps to maintain homeostasis is with the plasma that makes up blood. The plasma is mainly made up of water and it serves as a medium for the blood cells and platelets. Some proteins in the plasma transport lipids and fat-soluble vitamins, while some provide clotting if a person is bleeding (1).
- The circulatory system is associated with many other systems in the human body. One is the respiratory system. The red blood cell transport oxygen to cells during aerobic respiration and carries away the carbon dioxide waste. Another is the lymphatic system. This system contains the water and plasma proteins that leaked from the capillaries and delivers them back to the blood (1). It also produces some antibodies to fight viruses and bacteria. The third system that is integrated with the circulatory system is the digestive system. When we consume food, the nutrients and other important elements are broken down and the circulatory system takes nutrients and transports them to living cells. The living cells need these nutrients in order for them to work right.
- There are three types of blood vessels found in the human body. They are arteries, veins, and capillaries. Diffusion takes place in the capillaries because the walls are very thin. Both veins contain thicker walls than arteries, but they still allow diffusion to happen. The walls are made of smooth muscle and it contracts during exercise (1). Artery walls are thicker and also made of muscle.
3. Kidneys help to maintain the homeostasis in the body. The kidneys filter water, minerals, organic wastes, and other substances from the blood. Once the blood gets filtered, the clean blood is returned, and what was filtered out of the blood is released from the body as urine (2). Our kidneys have to constantly adjust to keep things stable. When people do not consume enough water, the body will retain more water. This makes the urine more concentrated because there is not enough water in there. The body sweats out impurities, water, and urea, which are all components of urine. Salt stays in the body and pulls the water from the urine. The body will retain more water so people may feel like they are bloated. Which is definitely not a good feeling.
- Your doctors perform a urinalysis regularly because they want to see if your body is properly digesting sugar. If too much sugar is present in a person’s urine, then they are considered to be a diabetic. If someone is diabetic then it is serious because their bodies do not produce insulin to which helps digest sugars. There are different levels of being diabetic, and for most people, they can live normal lives with it. A urinalysis is also used to detect kidney disorders. It is usually required at wellness exam or when being admitted to the hospital. Doctors also perform this test regularly because it can provide how a healthy somebody really is (2).
- If the kidneys are not working properly, the blood is not filtrated and all the toxins will remain in the blood stream. The kidneys filter the blood and get rid of all the waste by using the urinary system. A form of treatment is a dialysis machine, which someone is hooked up to filter their blood, and act as the kidneys. A person will be on dialysis until they can have a kidney transplant or their kidneys function properly.
4. Blood pressure has a big affect on the kidneys and the kidneys have an effect on blood pressure. High blood pressure is not a good sign for kidney function
