My intentions for the upcoming Spring Term
For the upcoming spring term, I expect to feel more comfortable during classroom facilitations. This assignment was the most challenging for me because I’m generally not the best conversation starter. However, I do want to improve upon this as I believe that it is a significant leadership quality. To facilitate effectively, I must remain be objective. This simply means that, for the purposes of the group process, I will take a neutral stance. The secret of great facilitation is a discussion that flows – and with it will flow the group's ideas, solutions, and decisions. My key responsibility as a facilitator is to create a safe environment in which ideas can flourish, and so help the group reach a successful decision, solution or conclusion.
In addition, I intend to limit procrastination for the following semester. The reasons I procrastinate are easy to identify. Sometimes I may feel overwhelmed by the task, or I want the assignment to be perfect, or at times I may get distracted. Whatever the reason, the fact remains: procrastination creates more stress in our lives, and never yields our best results. To avoid procrastination I must spend a few minutes thinking through everything that needs to be done, then, if possible, segment the assignments into various smaller pieces. It’s much easier to tackle smaller chunks than one huge task. If I plan ahead and work on assignments from the day they are given, I shouldn’t find myself struggling to complete them the day before.
