There is no doubt that employee retention is an issue in the working world today. With unemployment at a staggering level a company's most skilled employees are one of their biggest assets. Looking at the job market today as a prospective entry level employee it looks a bit bleak, but for an experienced employee, that has years of experience, the job market is their oyster. Through corruption, bankruptcy, restructuring, etc. there are openings for high level positions that may be appealing to your best workers. With the economy in a recession it is important to invest resources in your biggest assets to make sure that the turnover of your most valued employees is minimal. Managers would agree that retaining your best employees ensures customer satisfaction, product sales, satisfied coworkers and reporting staff, effective succession planning and deeply imbedded organizational knowledge and learning. If you are losing critical staff members, you can safely bet that other people in their departments are looking as well.
