I. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Book Worms Anonymous is a bookstore in the Southwest Missouri area. It is the goal of the marketing team to acquire the local market share in the music and bookstore industry through low prices, variety of products, a comprehensive amount of services that include buyback and trade programs, and a relaxing, friendly environment that encourages reading.
B.W.A will be an "S" corporation in the state of Missouri. The company will be jointly supported by Ms. Marta Mackey and her business associate Tim Louderback. Ms. Mackey is establishing this firm as a growth-oriented endeavor to begin her career in the business world. Mr. Louderback has had a life long passion for the world of books and wishes to provide a relaxing environment for local teenagers to experience culture through liberal arts. B.W.A will establish its store in the busiest section of El Dorado Springs, a midpoint for all surrounding counties, such as: St. Clair County, Polk County, Dade County, Benton County, and Vernon County. This area is well known for its retirement community and businesses respect the surrounding areas. The facility will be an 8,000 square ft. store. This allows the company to stock a large variety of inventory.
Book Worms Anonymous will offer a wide range of book, magazine, and music selections. There will be almost every category of literature, including fiction, non-fiction, business, science, hobbies, religion, and many other types of genre. Our music section will concentrate on CDs that the customers enjoy the most and therefore will take the least amount of floor space. The customers' preference will be discovered through surveys and questionnaires. In addition, B.W.A will offer a buy and trade service to assist in lowering out inventory acquisition costs. We will also have a reading room atmosphere that we will encourage through the placement of chairs and couches.
Our mission is to provide quality, new and used literature of all types at the lowest possible prices in the Southwest Missouri area. The company additionally seeks to provide a comfortable atmosphere for its clients by offering an enjoyable environment to browse and relax. Book Worms Anonymous wants to achieve profitability by July 2007, earn approximately $150,000 in sales by 2008, and start paying dividends by 2009. Book Worms Anonymous' start up expenses are estimated at $300,000 for the single time fees associated with opening the store and an additional $200,000 for the first year of operation. These costs will by financed by private investors.
II. INTRODUCTION
The following proposal provides a thorough documentation of the procedures need to establish Book Worms Anonymous, a bookstore that offers coffee and other drinks and the soothing melodies of an assortment of music. The company plans to be supported through private investment. B.W.A will be establishing its store at 410 E US Highway 54 El Dorado Springs, Missouri, one of the busiest sections of Cedar County. El Dorado Springs is an hour and half away from the second, third, and fifth largest cities in Missouri. The store will be located near a Sonic, McDonalds, Summer Fresh (a grocery store), and a laundromat. Customers will be able to shop for all their retail needs and wants within a limited driving distance.
Book Worms Anonymous will offer a wide range in books, magazines, and music selections. Any genre of literature will be found at B.W.A and if a customer cannot find a certain book or genre the store will do an advanced search to provide the customer with the item he or she needs. The music selection will mostly focus on country music as research has shown the potential customers would enjoy listening and purchasing the country genre of music 65 percent of the time.
Besides the search for hard to find items Book Worms Anonymous will also provide a less obvious service to our customers. We will make B.W.A a relaxed "reading room" type atmosphere that will be encouraged through the placement of chairs and couches. Our customers will be encouraged to spend as long as they want reading through our book selection and enjoying a quiet, relaxing environment. B.W.A. will also provide value-priced gift-wrapping for birthdays and holidays. There will also be a membership program for all routine customers.
Our store hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Once profitability becomes stable, we will extend these hours. However, Book Worms Anonymous will not be open on Sundays until 3:00 p.m. due to the population having previous commitments: such as church.
