Formula Rummy Lab
Setup: Students will be in groups of 4 to 6. Each group will have one deck of formula cards showing ions. Each student will have a copy of the scoring sheet.
Objective: To create a procedure for playing formula rummy and to play it. (Hypothesis not required). YOU WILL BE GRADED ON THE PROCEDURE THAT YOU WRITE. Remember to use the scoring sheet you have been given, and to write it into the procedure.
Use of the cards: Each card has either an ion (Na+) or a set of parenthesis ( ) with a subscript. I.e. ( )2 , ( )3 etc. The parenthesis are used to multiply the amount of an ion being used. So ( )2 combined with Na+ means that the formula written should be Na2___ combined with whatever anion is chosen. Formulas must follow the rules you have been given for properly writing formulas.
