Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. is an industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding. They have state-of-the-art design capabilities and create innovative plastic designs that have earned international acclaim. Riordan has a strong reputation for paying attention to detail and extreme precision and fascinating quality control. Riordan is a Fortune 1000 enterprise with revenues in the excess of $1 billion. They have three locations in the Unites States; one in California, Georgia, Michigan, and an international location in Hangzhou, China. Riordan produces plastic beverage containers in Albany, Georgia, custom plastic parts in Pontiac, Michigan, and plastic fan parts in Hangzhou, China while their research and development is based out of San Jose, California, which is considered Riordan’s corporate headquarters. Their major customers are beverage makers and bottlers, appliance manufacturers, aircraft manufacturers, automotive parts manufacturer and the Department of Defense. Riordan has recently made several strategic changes in the way it manufactures and markets its products. With these changes they are now experiencing uneven profits and declining sales. The uneven profits and declining sales have especially affected the company the last two years. Primarily customers are now being served by sales teams rather than single salespeople. The teams will include a sales person, product engineering specialist and customer service rep. This new team will improve sales and profits.

Situation Analysis

Issue and Opportunity Identification

There are multiple issues facing Riordan. Employee motivation, declining morale and work ethic, declining sales, and the restructuring of the sales teams are some of these issues. The opportunities are to turn these issues into positive ones. If you provide the employee with positive reinforcement and benefits you will receive positive results. Teambuilding is a great opportunity to create an atmosphere for employees to learn how to work together as a team. When employees have the same vision to grow a company, the company will benefit from that growth. If an employee has the incentive to increase sales and grow the profits they will continue to do so.

Stakeholder Perspectives/Ethical Dilemmas

Shareholders, employees, customers, consumers and senior management are all stakeholders in this Riordan manufacturing scenario. The customers expect service that is different avenues.

The employees of Riordan want to earn a decent wage with benefits so they can provide for themselves and/or their families. They want job security with an opportunity to have a plan for successful and with that you need to have employees that are going to assist you in achieving this goal. If you support the employees needs they will support the company?s needs.

The senior management has to be the decision makers with everyone best interest at heart. company. They do not like to be micro managed themselves, they are the micro managers, if they need to be. In the end, if the company if doing well the senior management will be rewarded in more ways than one.

The customers have interest in a product that is of high quality and reliable. They are the ones that will purchase the product and spread the word for future customers. You want your issues a company may be having they just want a quality product with strong customer service base.

End-State Vision

Riordan has a two year plan to reach the $50 million revenue mark. The objective was , price discounts, and customer user group services and two to expand sales to new customers by implementing public relations activities, trade shows, brand development and sales force promotions.

There are steps that will be needed to be taken to achieve goals to increase the sales and profits. These goals include the following:
