Hamlet Final Analysis

I. Act I, ii “Though yet of Hamlet our dear brother’s death the memory be green, and that it us befitted to bear our hearts in grief, and our whole kingdom”

This quote portrays dramatic irony because Caudius is acting like he is davastaed and grieving for his brother’s death. Yet in reality it was he who killed his brother.

Act I, iii “Think yourself a baby that u have tane these tenders for true pay, which are not sterling.”

This quote portrays dramatic irony because Polonius is telling his daughter, Ophelia to act like a child, yet she is not, she is a young woman. Hamlet is following all the rules of courtship properly and she is of the age to be interacting with suitors.

Act III, iv “How now, a rat? Dead for a ducat, dead.”

This quote is when Hamlet slays the man behind the curtain. He does this thinking that King Claudius is behind the curtain, but when the dead man falls on the floor, it turns out to be Polonius.

Act III, iv “In the rank sweat of an enseamed bed, stewed in corruption, honeying and making love over the nasty sty.”

Hamlet is telling this to his mother because she is corrupting and desecrating the very bed that she used to share with his father by sleeping with Claudius.

Act III, iii “My words fly up, my thoughts remain below. Words without thoughts never to heaven go.”

This quote is a very good example of irony because he is asking forgiveness to God yet he doesn’t even mean it. He
