Harnessing Human Resource Potential in Organizations

Using the University of Ghana as a case study I wish to investigate how an organization's Human Resources practices and policies can enhance the potential of its workforce. This will be a descriptive study that will employ the survey method utilizing interviews and a questionnaire to solicit data.

The objective for the study would be to determine whether, in the dynamic environment in which organizations, including the University of Ghana are expected to compete with other competitor organizations, it is possible for the university to obtain competitive advantage. In the case of the University of ghana the competitors are the other five national universities, a myriad of newly created private universities and other universities in Africa and elsewhere round the world.

The background to the study is that the University of Ghana, the premiere university in the country established 64 years ago in 1948 and credited with producing a large proportion of the country's human resource and has maintained a lead in this direction in the face of changing circumstances characterised by high enrollment rates, limited resources and global demand for high quality products with a current vision to become a worldclass university comparable to any in the world is well
