Homeless in the Usa
Homelessness in the USA
For this project, our group chose to do research on a serious problem in the United States. Homelessness occurs throughout the whole nation and it is growing as we speak. Homelessness can be caused by a variety of problems. The main cause is unaffordable housing for the poor. Secondary causes include mental illness, physical illnesses, substance abuse, lack of incentives to work, poor work ethics, and also lack of descent education. Many homeless people aren’t given much attention by the government therefore they have no opportunity to move forward in life. The US government needs to reach out to the homeless population and help them get back on their feet.
So first of all, I got together with my group and started brainstorming on how we are going to present this topic. We decided to make a video presentation to make it more realistic of what the lives of homeless people seems like. So we went out in the real world and made video of different homeless people in the city. After performing this task, I learned a lot of stuff about homeless people.
Homeless people do not qualify for healthcare because they cannot afford cash for medical care or they don’t have health insurance, so finding health care for a homeless is a really big challenge. Also many homeless people we talked to suggested that they should receive better assistance to them by the government. It has been reported that the types of assistance homeless adults felt they needed most were help finding a job, help finding affordable housing, and help paying for housing. However, the main types of assistance they usually received were clothing, transportation and help with public benefits. Few homeless actually receive help finding housing, likely because caregivers know it’s unaffordable or otherwise unattainable for people of their social status. So that’s one thing I thought that is very important that the government should start focusing on finding jobs rather than giving out clothes.
So after exploring the city, we then headed for the computers to research. A lot
