Insulting Andrew
SUMMARY
Basically, the case is all about Ayoub Companies (AC) that is currently having a problem with finding the new leader for the company. AC is well known as one of the biggest privately owned companies in the Middle East. Ever since Yusef Ayoub replaced the CEO’s post in the company from his father, his brilliant idea by using a major growth strategy centered on adopting and maintaining the top talent and set up a highly meritocratic culture. Apparently, Ayoub had a powerful and various executive teams such as from seven different nationalities. Later on, Rogers who felt Andrew Yard was one of the best candidates to fill the post offered the job to Andrew Yard. However, Yard who was currently holding another position couldn’t accept it right away as he’s still in the contract with his employer. Therefore, Rogers who was in desperate state, offered Yard to left the company immediately and will pay Yard a very good pay. Yard in the end felt bad for leaving his company in bad state later reply the conversation between Rogers and he said that he felt insulted for being paid like that. He is still in the duty and there is no way he will just leave his team just like that. This case pretty much shows that the loyalty and quality of an employee is the key to the successful company.

Case discussion :
- Motivating top talent to work in difficult international assignments is a major challenge for top international managers. What might be more important than money to make this work?
It is indeed a very hard work to persuade the top talent to work with the company. However, the company itself should be in a good state so that the top talent would likely to join the company if the company is economically balance and also has a good name to most of the people. The environment in the company also would motivate not only to the top talent, but also works to most of the people who are currently working in the company. The more positive the environment, the results will be more happily people who works at there.
- Why do you think that Andrew Yard was insulted by the surprise bonus offered by Rogers to have him take the job early?
In my opinion, firstly, Andrew Yard is one of the most wanted leader in the industry. Even Egon Zehnder describes him as a first class retailer. He has the rights to accept the offer even if he needs to leave his current post immediately. However, he failed to do so. This might be due to his personality that is matured, strict, and a high value of loyalty in himself. Money is not everything and cannot buy him to do anything that people ask him to do. He still has responsible towards the current job and he will never leave his team in bad condition. Therefore, he will finished his contract and settle down everything first.
