Censorship

It has become particularly difficult to censor the vast amount of information that the internet readily provides. Children today can access indecent content through the internet, just as easy as flicking on their Sony Play stations. It would seem obvious that the government, of first world countries would create or demand some system to eliminate all the problems associated with indecent content. However, children can still learn how to make car bombs or crystal meth while in their third period French class. The internet has seemingly become too difficult for parents, society and the government to handle. However, censoring children from the internet isn’t a practical defence against indecent material fount on the net because it isn’t possible, practical, or desirable.

The possibility of controlling the internet would merely be too difficult. The internet is just way to overwhelming for any organization to govern. If you can imagine the amount of computer terminals, web pages, data base’s, end user’s, computer programmers, and even hackers that a single organization will have to restructure and manage it seems enormous. Also, it must be taken into consideration that the net has been operating for more then two decades. Years of material would have to be assessed to figure what is suitable or not for children.

It wouldn’t be a desirable to censor children from the internet because there are simpler more effects methods to protect children. The approach to protect children from drugs and drinking is through education and conversation. If parents talk to their children about drugs and drinking and the effects, then children will have a clearer understanding of the dangers. If children are educated about the adults that prey on children, dangerous websites and pornography then they will have a better understanding of what not to search for.
