Janus Overseas Fund
Is your portfolio missing the international exposure that it needs? Do you feel that the return on your portfolio isn’t as high as it should be? The Janus Overseas fund is worth checking into. I have personally chosen the Janus Overseas Fund to invest for my retirement. The Janus Overseas Fund is a capital-growth fund. This means that the fund’s objective is to provide long-term capital gains. The fund aims to invest over eighty percent of its assets in foreign securities from at least five different countries.
The fund is managed by Mr. Lynn. He began managing the fund in 2000. He has a master's degree in economics and industrial engineering degree from Stanford University. The fund is a no load fund with a 90 point management fee. The first three years after Mr. Lynn began as manager, the fund didn’t have strong performance numbers. In 2003, the management of the fund changed and Mr. Lynn got a new assistant manager. Since then, the fund has had three strong years. Also, it is off to a great start during the current with a 33.33 percent year to date return. I believe that Mr. Lynn both improved as an investor and benefited from having an assistant. In my opinion, the fund will continue to have great years to come. Mr. Lynn is so confident in his fund, that he personally has over 1 million of his own money in the Janus Overseas Fund. I believe that Mr. Lynn is a strong and experienced fund investor.
The fund itself has had three down years and eight up years since its inception. Since inception, the fund has a return of 14.62 percent. In the past 5 years it has a return of 19.26 percent. This number represents the return since it has been under its current management. According to the Lippor ratings, the fund is constantly in the first performance quartile. In the past three years, it has been number one in its category. If past numbers are any indication, the fund should continue to outperform similar funds in its category.
The Janus Overseas Fund is classified as a higher risk fund than most domestic funds. This means that it isn’t a good choice for individuals that are relying solely on the money for their retirement. I chose to invest in this fund because I will be investing in it right out of college. I believe this fund is ideal for a person that is interested in growing their initial retirement investment. If the investment turns out to not be a big winner, then I will have time to invest in safer lower risk funds. During the first years of my employment, capital growth will be my main purpose. Once I become established, I will further diversify my fund holdings. The Janus Overseas Fund will give me a good start to my retirement portfolio. The Janus Overseas Fund is a good choice for anyone who wants their money to grow over time.
There are many good reasons to invest in the Janus Overseas Fund, but like any mutual fund, past performance doesn’t guarantee future performance. Investing in any mutual fund is a gamble.
