Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

What do you do when you’ve got a million dollars lying around in your bank account? Simple. You go to an Automobili Lamborghini showroom and buy one of the beastly beauties for yourself. An LP640, to be specific. But, wait! They don’t give off Lambos just because you’ve got some money lying around. If this was the case, believe me there’d be more Lambos than Hondas on the streets. Automobili Lamborghini only produces a limited amount of these supercars and sells them only to people who they consider are worthy for it.

Having an LP640 is an honor, driving it is a pleasure. The LP640 has different modes; the “sport” mode being my favorite. You press the little “sport” button near the console and an orange LED turns on. Now you’re good to go. All you gotta do is push that accelerator until the rpm needle hits 4000 and hold on tight. You will be catapulted by the 6.5 liter V12 engine, to a miraculous 100 km/h in a mere 3.4 seconds. At this point, it feels as if you’ve left your body organs behind, you can even feel the skin on your face being forced back. Oh, what a feeling that is. Blessed are the people who have this monster in their garage.

The LP640 unlike other so-called supercars isn’t a pain to sit inside, rather it’s a pleasure. Firstly, you’re greeted with scissor doors, meaning they open vertically. When you have taken a seat inside, the all-leather interior helps you get comfortable. Then you reach for the touch screen 6.5” LCD and play your favorite DVD or CD, next you turn on the satellite navigation, feed in the address and you let the car do the talking. The cockpit is also fitted with a proper air-conditioning system different to other Lambos which have an AC that coughs out air like a mouse, as Clarkson also says.

What’s more is that, as this beast starts going at a higher speed the higher the fun it becomes. The LP640, with its 640 horsepower engine, of course, can reach a top speed of 337 km/h. In the process of doing this, the car does some magnificent things. Such as, air intake “fins” slide out of the body to keep the engine cool. The side mirrors slide in to avoid reducing speed and, plus, the car lowers a couple of inches to reduce air resistance.

What really has me addicted to LP640, to be frank, is its roar. Oh what a sound that is. One could live solely off that sound. So loud yet so beautiful. So angry yet so obedient. So… and the list goes on. The LP640’s sound, I believe, is the beast’s heart, without it there’s no LP640.

The LP640 has become a unit of measure in today’s age. I was once told that a 49,000hp propulsion motor was being used in the US Navy. Well, to be honest, I had no idea of what that meant until I was told that this was to equal to 78 LP640 engines put together. I fairly got the point; the engine was pretty big... I think.

Well, when you buy this car it comes with responsibilities, expensive responsibilities. The fuel tank tends to be miniscule when you’re actually hitting 300+ km/h. Also the general maintenance of this monster tends to be heavy on the wallet; the tires alone would cost around $1500, and they have to be changed almost every 3 months. Another problem that pops up, is the fact that the storage trunk, located in the front, will not let you fit more than an average carrying bag. So, it’s certainly not the most practical way to travel long distances, but it is the fastest.
